Outline

I. Introduction (literally the word Introduction)

A.  Opening Remarks/Hook (literally those words)

B.  Thesis statement:  (write it out – state three points)

II.   Point One (write it out in sentence format – this should be the topic sentence of your paragraph)

III.  Point Two (write it out in sentence format – this should be the topic sentence of your paragraph)

IV.  Point Three (write it out in sentence format – this should be the topic sentence of your paragraph)

V.   Rufute the opposition

VI.  Conclusion (literally the word Conclusion)

A.  Thesis statement: (write it out)

Please note that all As and Bs should be lined up. All Roman Numerals should be against the left margin, followed by a period.  Google Docs sometimes is difficult to format. If you are having issues, please let me know.

Always type twice after a period – for this and the entire essay.

After this, insert a page break and begin page two, which will be your essay.  This page should have your header, your heading, your title, and the first portion of your essay.

Research Paper

You will electronically submit a six paragraph research essay to me on a current issue to be determined in class.  You must take a side on your controversial issue and provide three reasons why this side is valid.  This essay, outline, research folder, and Works Cited page  will be must be electronically submitted by  11.59 p.m. Tuesday, November 29th.  All but the research folder will be submitted via Google Docs, and the research folder will be emailed to me  from EBSCOhost.

Each paragraph must have a minimum of five sentences.

You must use at least three sources with at least two from EBSCOhost.

Your paper must be in MLA format with a Works Cited page.

We will be following this schedule for the next two weeks (more details can be found on other posts):

Tuesday, November 15:  Write paragraph three (subtopic two).  The paragraph should begin with a topic sentence in your own words, stating your exact point.  The paragraph should end with a concluding sentence in your own words.  Each paragraph should include at least one source, and the source should be properly cited.

Monday, November 28: Write your introduction.  Your introduction should start with an interesting question, fact, or story:  something to “hook” your reader.  End your introduction with your THESIS STATEMENT.

Write your conclusion.  Your conclusion should begin with your THESIS statement, and then have sentences summarizing your points, ending with a call to action to your reader.  Be sure not to use “you” or write in commands.

Tuesday, November 29:  Complete your Works Cited page; edit entire essay for GPS (Grammar, punctuation, and spelling).

Share your complete document with a peer.  The peer should leave comments on your paper.  When finished, revise paper, and share with me at the address provided on the board.
